Laser Skin Resurfacing: What is it?

Laser skin resurfacing can help with aging, acne, sun damage, blotches, scars, wrinkles and lines to help make your skin look healthier and younger. Laser skin resurfacing does this by removing skin layer by layer with precision. The new skin cells that emerge during the healing process are tighter and give your skin a younger look.

This is a great option for renewing your skin without plastic surgery or fillers. Pure Luxe Medical offers a great option for laser skin resurfacing with our Fractional, Non-Ablative Laser Therapy. Here is a closer look at what laser skin resurfacing is and how to prepare for the procedure.

How to Prepare

First, you’ll need to consult with a medical provider to determine if you are an ideal candidate for laser skin resurfacing. Let your medical provider know if you get fever blisters or cold sores around your mouth as laser skin resurfacing can cause outbreaks in people who are at risk.

If you do decide to go through with the procedure your medical provider will ask you not to take any medications or supplements that can affect clotting for 10 days prior to the procedure. If you are a smoker, you will need to stop for two weeks before and after the procedure as smoking can delay the healing process for the skin. Your medical provider may also prescribe antiviral medication if you are prone to fever blisters or cold sores.

During and After the Procedure

Depending on your needs, your medical provider may treat wrinkles around your eyes, mouth or forehead or they may treat your entire face. Your medical provider will numb the area being treated with a topical anesthetic.

Full face treatment is about 45 minutes.  Numbing time is also 45 minutes.

To ease swelling, you can sleep on an extra pillow at night, take some arnica pills, antihistamine, cut down on salt, and use ice packs.

Following the procedure, swelling after laser skin resurfacing is normal and your medical provider may prescribe steroids to manage swelling around your eyes. To ease swelling, you can sleep on an extra pillow at night take some arnica pills, antihistamine, cut down on salt, and use ice packs.

Be sure to use a “broad spectrum” sunscreen, which screens ultraviolet B and ultraviolet A rays. Use a sunscreen specifically formulated for use on the face with a 7% or higher zinc oxide content and SPF of 30 or higher. Limit your exposure to the sun, especially between the hours of 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. It is also crucial that you keep your new skin moisturized to maintain the healthy glow.
